No Prescription Required

No Prescription No Problem

You have a right to make your own healthcare choices!

In 2015, Virginia law was updated to give you, the consumer, the right to obtain Physical Therapy services directly, without requiring a prescription from a physician for a 30-day period before one would be required. This update allows patients greater access to healthcare services in a more timely and cost-effective manner. This greatly empowers people to control their own care and keep their costs down.

What do I have to do to be seen? Simply call us directly and make your Physical Therapy appointment at your convenience. When you arrive, you will be given a Patient Attestation Form to complete, on which you will indicate a physician whom you would most likely seek care from should your situation require further evaluation after thirty days. Your physical therapist will send a written report of your condition to that physician with your permission.

Often, this 30-day treatment period is sufficient to help you through the acute stage of a problem, or allow you to begin treatment while awaiting an appointment with your physician, if necessary.

Are there limits or restrictions to seeing my physical therapist? Your Physical Therapist can proficiently evaluate and manage musculoskeletal conditions, movement disorders, functional limitations and disabilities related to pain and movement functionality.

Will my insurance cover my physical therapy if I’m seen without a referral from my physician? In most cases, your insurance company will cover therapy services as usual, but feel free to call Virginia Center for Spine & Sports Therapy or check with your insurance company directly.
