Functional Movement Screens

Functional Movement Screening Midlothian, VA

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) was developed by a physical therapist as a way to identify individuals who may be at an increased risk for injury while participating in athletic activities. Sometimes, individuals, even those performing at a high level, may be lacking  full range of motion and even control over that range of motion, which may increase the potential for developing an injury or pain.

While recent research has shown that the FMS may not be predictive of injury, it is best utilized to identify baselines in movement quality, efficiency, and symmetry before people begin an athletic program or a movement practice and especially when adding exercise volume and load. It also helps physical therapists with exercise programming to address the test findings based on individual needs and goals.
